Mesotherapy or Lipodissolve is traditionally performed in the US in Cosmetic spas and rarely by a physician despite the fact that fairly significant medications are injected into the skin during the procedure. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration have not approved the subcutaneous (below the skin) injection of medications commonly used in Mesotherapy or Lipodissolve.

There are multiple cocktails of medications used in Mesotherapy or Lipodissolve including: phosphatidylcholine, isopterenol, aminophylline, caffeine, L-carnitine, buflomedil, calcitonin, and others. The published scientific study was a randomized, prospective, clinical trial carried out on 20 women. A solution of aminophylline, lidocaine and buflomedil was used in the patient's thigh area.

The results showed no statistical evidence of loss of fat or improved body contour in the thigh area of these women. In fact, some women had larger thighs after the study.

Despite the many stories of significant fat melting by some cosmetic practitioners and spas as a result of Mesotherapy or Lipodissolve, the plastic surgery community does not feel this is an effective means of body contouring and is certainly no substitute for liposuction.

Advertising is at saturation level, and now most people are familiar with the term and have at least a vague idea of what it entails. Using Botox For a Chemical Brow Lift

Botox is now the most well known injectable cosmetic facial treatment and is phenomenally effective at reducing undesired lines of facial expression, particularly in the forehead and eye area. The temporary paralysis effect of Botox works by reducing muscle pull on the overlying skin. Since lines and wrinkles form on the face from the pull of muscle that runs perpendicular to the line or wrinkle, this provides a strategy for where to place Botox injections. In the glabellar frown wrinkles (the now famous number 11s!), which are the number one facial area for Botox injections and the facial area from which the initial clinical studies for FDA approval were done, injection into the brow depressors (corrugator and procerus msucles are the main ones) is an effective approach.

Coincidentally, and with a simultaneous positive cosmetic result, paralysis of the brow depressors leaves the brow elevator muscles unopposed. In so doing, a minor brow lift is obtained in many patients. As the eyebrows are elevated by the vertical-running frontalis muscle, the lack of any down pull by the depressors allows this muscle to raise the eyebrows to some degree. Multiple clinical studies have shown that modest brow elevation occurs in the range of 1 to 3mms. This may sound like a modest amount, but in the face this can be a make a real observable difference.

Brow elevation with Botox can be done for the inner brow, outer brow, or both. It all depends on where one places the injections. As the most common area for Botox injections is in the glabellar area, only an inner brow lift will result. To create a more complete eyebrow lift, the outer brow depressors must be paralyzed as well. This means injecting out on the side of the brow to weaken the downward pull of the orbicularis oculi muscle. Injecting both inner and outer brows can create a 'chemical' brow lift which appears within seven days after the injections. You can see that an artistic eye in conjunction with the patient's input, is key in getting a result that the patient sees as both desireable and pleasing.

I have found that brow lifting with Botox works best in female patients who do not have thick forehead skin or heavy brow tissue. It seems to be less effective in males although this probably dose-related as it is well known that larger muscles needs higher doses of Botox to be effective. While Botox only lasts 4 months or so, their non-surgical aesthetic benefits are worth it for many patients.

Difference Between Tumescent and Ultrasonic Liposuction - Why You Need to Know

Is Botox Safe?

There have been several recent stories in the new media that call into question the safety of Botox. Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. Botox, produced by Allergan corporation, is marketed under the names Botox and Botox Cosmetic. First approved by the FDA for medical uses, such as cross eyes and facial spasm, Botox was recently approved for use as Botox Cosmetic to reduce the wrinkles between the eyebrows.

In February 2008, the United States Food and Drug administration put out an early communication indicating it was researching several reactions to Botox which mimicked botulinum toxin poisoning. Facial Masseter Muscle Reduction With Botox Injections

Botox, the world's most popular injectable cosmetic treatment, works by providing a temporary muscle paralyzing effect reducing or eliminating unwanted facial expressions. The vast majority of Botox used for this purpose is done in the forehead and around the eyes. In the masseter muscle, however, repeated Botox injections over time can actually reduce the size of this large muscle improving external appearance and reducing muscle-clenching pain symptoms.

The use of Botox for masseter muscle reduction is well chronicled in the Korean medical journals. In this ethnic group, it is often desired to reduce the size of the muscles for the cosmetic purpose of making the face look less square. I usually inject right into the prominent bulging areas with 6 units per bulged area and stay closer to the angle areas of the jaw and its lower border to avoid injecting into the parotid gland. Plus, the thickest bulk of the masseter muscle lies low anyway. I have found that it takes about 25 - 35 units per side to get a good effect. So when I run out of bulging areas to inject, I will make sure I inject at the front and back of the muscle at the bottom of the jaw until I reach that number of units.

While effects can be usually been fairly quick, as judged by less muscle pain and headaches, it takes about 6 months before actual visible shrinking of the muscle is seen. Botox injections should be repeated every 4 months up to a years worth of treatment to see the best results. The decreased size of the muscle is impressive after a year of Botox therapy. I have been surprised to see that the results of masseter muscle reduction seem to be maintained even if no further Botox injections are done. I don't have a good physiologic explanation as to why that would be so, as Botox does not cause any permanent atrophy in the muscles of facial expression. But I have seen it enough now to realize that it is real clinical finding with Botox use.

Hyperpigmentation in Cosmetic Laser Procedures

Hyperpigmentation means the abnormal darkening of skin, usually in a specific area of the body. This may be due to an injury, such as a burn, or from inflammation, such as an infection (e.g. a skin infection that was treated). Anytime there is an inflammatory stimulus, melanocytes might be triggered to produce extra melanin as part of the healing process. It is different from scarring. Scarring means that there is increased collagen production in the area and that the texture of the skin has changed. Hyperpigmentation causes no textural change of the skin, just a change in color.

Laser treatment of the skin can also occasionally lead to hyperpigmentation. Any laser transmits light into the skin. If there is heat generated or cells damaged, inflammation and thereby hyperpigmentation may be stimulated. The ideal in most cosmetic laser treatment is to target specific elements within the skin, such as hair or age spots, and avoid thermal damage to surrounding structures. This kind of targeted approach is usually successful in avoiding hyperpigmentation.

In published research, it has been shown that darker-skinned patients are more likely to be affected by hyperpigmentation when treated for laser hair removal. Darker skin types may have a 10 times risk versus the lightest skinned patients. In hair removal, some lasers have a lower risk of hyperpigmenation than others. The diode laser, for instance, has a much lower risk than the ruby. For this reason, the ruby is no longer commonly used for hair removal.

THe main treatment for hyperpigmenation has been hydroquinone. It varies in strengths from 2% to 4% or much higher. Hydroquinone works by blocking the tyrosinase enzyme which is important in the making of melanin. It is a well recognized phenomenon that as we age, our earlobes sag and 'grow' longer. With this sagging, some earlobes get thinner and develop creases or wrinkles as well. Breast Implant Surgery - Massage Therapy Is Advisable For Better Results

One of the most common complications with breast implant surgery is the occurrence of capsular contraction. After surgery, the body creates a capsule or sack of tissue around the breast implants. This is actually a normal healing process and safety measure conducted by the body. Some doctors prefer the compression massage technique however, because patients often practice displacement after breast augmentation ineffectively. Dear Oprah,

How are you? I am fine. Well, actually, I'm not so fine considering I woke up with night sweats four times last night and my middle-aged eyes are so bad I can't read a blessed thing which is why I accidentally took the dog's medication instead of my thyroid pill.

But oh! Let me stop right there. Instead of flinging such negative karma to the universe, you would want me to choose gratitude for what comes my way. Therefore I declare that I am thankful that I will never have to endure the ravages of heart-worm.

I'm writing you today about last Thursday's show when you and your gal pal, Marianne Williamson asked us to embrace the miracle of aging.

Now Ms. Winfrey I try to do all the things that you say. Were it not for your book club, who knows what I would read. And how else would I refer to my va-jay-jay in public if it weren't for you spreading the word. All though I do wonder just why I want to be referring to my va-jay-jay at cocktail parties and such but not matter. I'm sure you'll have a friend on your show who will explain that to me too.

And speaking of your friends, I really must say I'm enjoying them all. Especially that cute Dr. Oz with his deep, probing questions. Gosh, when he wanted to know, "Do you ever sit back at night and think, 'Why do I have public hair?'" , I was ever so impressed. I had never considered that before.

If anything, I usually sit back at night, in the spare five minutes I have after the kids are in bed, the dog has been walked, the dishes are done and the e-mail's been checked and lapse into a comatose state. If ever I think of my pubic hair these days, it's to idly wonder if Lady Grecian makes a formula for the nether regions.

You and Miss Williamson (who is lovely by the way - kind of like a cross between Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island and Leona Helmsley) directed us viewers to believe that 50 and beyond will be the most miraculous time of our lives and I so want to believe!

Don't get me wrong, I know that forty is fabulous and fifty is fearsome. But do I have to love everything that's happening to me now?

I know to look at the good side of things, really I do. I try to be happy when I notice my hair thinning. "It's not gone," I tell myself. "It's just moved." To my chin.

I'm trying to make the best of my hot flashes too. I'm Canadian. Surely the extra heat means I'll save on my winter wardrobe.

And when I can't read small print on prescriptions or pill bottles, I try to stay positive and just guess what to take. Golly, apart from that near fatal overdose, things have been fine.

I'm not just asking for myself Oprah. I'm thinking of my friends. Unlike you, we don't throw lavish parties where famous friends read us poetry. He was on a mission to protect and to save. He was wearing sunglasses and possessed absolute focus on the road. His face had such absolute determination that I believed that he could not be stopped.

Although I knew that he had a more important purpose, I couldn't help but wish that he was coming to rescue me from that lonely corner to whisk me off to some private romantic place. At some point my actual vision turned from real to fantasy-full of all kinds of thoughts! My fantasy was short lived though. I knew that he was gone when the sidewalk stopped trembling.

Then, the light changed and I was thrust back into the real world. Hopefully, he was able to put out that fire. However, methinks that his image will continue to fuel mine for quite a while...

How to learn to love yourself...

Okay, so you want to love yourself but as much as you try to look in the mirror and admire the woman looking back at you, you can't.

You then put just anything on, nothing will look great anyway, and go out and live your life day by day thinking, 'I'll never be beautiful - no matter how much I read about the subject, I just can't, so I might as well accept it...oh and by the way, the thing about beauty coming from within is probably just a nice proverb made up by someone who felt the same way I feel'.

Beauty does come from within, it's not just a proverb but a fact, I think it's been more than proven through people we love who simply look gorgeous or extremely handsome. However, we can't deny the fact that it shouldn't only remain within. Beauty is to be exposed and admired. Who doesn't love to look at beautiful things?

So how can you love yourself enough to the point of feeling beautiful?

To answer that, you must first ask the question: What do people who love themselves do?
Do they just put anything on hoping that the person within will be admired? Of course not. A woman who loves herself will take good care of herself. She'll invest in herself in every way possible, which means that she'll take the time to look great.

Sometimes that's all you need to do. How can you care more for yourself as a woman? Would you perhaps benefit from a good diet and daily exercises that will not only make you look better but make you feel wonderful? How about your hairstyle - could you look better with a more modern look?

Perhaps you could dress in an entire different style altogether, going for bolder colours, more feminine and elegant clothes, with a couple of extra accessories to complete the look. In other words, you don't need to go and get a makeover that lasts for a day or two in order to look and feel better about yourself. You can do it today, right now and in a way that will look better with time. What's stopping you? In this day and age, you don't even need to have loads of money to look good. All you need is an eye for what suits you. That's all! Not a big deal is it?

If you start caring for yourself as if you love who you are, you'll really start loving yourself, and do you know why? Because you're a loveable person so why wouldn't you love yourself?
Taking good care of yourself will only bring you benefits and it's fun, exciting, and extremely rewarding. When I woke up to this fact, it was as if I had been revived - no more clothes that made me look too old and no more wig-like haircuts. I started to take the time to do my nails every week (by myself by the way), go bolder with the colours I wore, and did something different with my hair. As I started to enjoy what I saw, I started to care more, going to the gym and eating more healthy foods.

Today, caring for myself is a daily routine. I guess if you can care for yourself, you can then care for others.

1. When you have a bad gut feeling about someone who is approaching (usually after they have disregarded your stern "Stop")

4. As you are running to safety

You are now capable of scaring off most attackers before they approach, during an approach and in the third phase of attack - physical contact. There you are, your Honey and you, basking in the post-dinner, kids-tucked-in-calm, watching TV before turning in for the night. Well, sort-of watching. Your favorite sit-com is over, and your mate is channel-surfing. You figure this is a great time to talk about replacing the hot water heater, after all, nothing much is going on. So you ask, "Honey, what do you think - should we go to Home Depot this weekend and pick out a water heater and see if we can install it ourselves, or do you want to look into getting a contractor - although they're so expensive, and I don't know right now if that's a good idea - but anyway, we really do need to do something about that water heater and . . ."

Your mate is looking at you with the same expression he has when he bites into a sour fruit. "What?" you ask. "Do we have to talk about this now?" he replies. "Well, why not?" you ask. "Cause we're watching TV," he answers, clicking the remote. "We're not exactly watching," you snap, frustrated. "I'm watching," he retorts, clicking away. "OK, fine," you sputter, "You never want to talk about anything." Your sweetheart looks dejected. "That's not true. I just don't want to talk about it now." You roll your eyes. "I'm going to bed." You wonder, what is wrong with men? Why is getting them to talk about anything such a big deal?

Because it is. For a lot of guys, anyway. You see, women are generally great talkers - they express themselves freely to most anybody, anytime, on just about any subject. Gals will start a deep conversation while having their nails done, or during a commercial in response to something prompted by the TV show they're watching. Men are quite different. For starters, men usually prefer to attend to one thing at a time. If they're watching TV, they're watching TV (don't be fooled by the channel surfing, they're still watching TV). If they're cooking, they're cooking. If they're changing a tire, they're changing a tire. Few men are comfortable doing any of the above and having a conversation about something else.

These differences between men and women aren't just stories, they're biologically based. Recent research has shown that male and female brains are composed of different amounts of grey and white matter. Women's brains contain about 15% to 20% more grey matter than men's, which gives women more processing power, facilitating their multi-tasking abilities so often envied by male friends and spouses. The white matter in female brains is found primarily in that area of the brain which links the brain's two hemispheres, making it easier for women's brains to respond to verbal tasks, which is one of the reasons why women are usually better at talking than their partners are.

Men have more white matter than women do in their brains overall, giving them that uncanny ability to parallel park in two swift accurate maneuvers, as opposed to women's three or more stabs at it, and to glance in the trunk of the car and say "Oh, sure, that'll fit," while the woman in their life is saying "No way," when yes indeed, it fits. The white matter is also what allows men's single-mindedness, the ease with which they can focus all their attention on one task, even if that does drive women nuts when they want his attention on several things at once.

Respect your man's biology! If you want to talk with your mate about a matter of consequence, make sure nothing else is going on so he doesn't feel torn between two (or more) points of attention. And then, be attentive. Wait. Many men don't have thoughts just ready to pop out on cue, they have to dig deep, rummage around in their minds, so that their next thought will be considered, genuine. His thought process deserves your respect, not your impatience.

With just a little attention to your guy's different brain power, you may find he's a much better conversationalist than you ever thought possible.

Single Parenting Problems - Mothers As Single Parents In USA

Single mothers face a lot of problems while bringing up children in USA. Financial problems being the most important as ex-husband may not pay the court order money for child support. These mothers may not be able to do a full time job as a result they may not be able to pay for day care and may not meet the criteria for head start. Many are thus dependent on AFDC (aid to families with dependent children) or WIC (Women Infants and children). This dependence on welfare organization once established is difficult to break.

There are many reasons for the financial worries of single mothers. Although most ex-spouses fulfill their court ordered financial obligations regarding their children; a few of them do not comply with this court ordered support. The latter case not only results in extra psychological and physical burden on the single mother, it makes it difficult for her to fulfill the requirements of the child in regards to food and clothing. A lot of people may consider court ordered support as luxury; but on the contrary it is just enough to meet the requirements.

The children constantly grow so they require a regular supply of clothing and food. Education is not entirely free even in state schools. Similarly preschool children require child care, whereas day care is difficult to afford. More over the WIC or AFDC will not support the mother till the issue of court order is resolved. This means going back to the court again and making your ex-husband to pay either by wage garnishment or by any other legal way. It is not an easy task to find an ex- husband so the lone mother can do nothing than to rely on herself alone. This places the mother as well as the child in a danger of becoming homeless. These are the risks of single parenting.

It is difficult to afford daycare as they usually require up to $400 per month. Most lone mothers have to take a job. However with the daycare being so costly it may not be possible for the mother to work as well as look after her preschool children. The head start and the early start are good supportive programs but most of these mothers do not fall in the specified low income groups especially when receiving court support.

So they may not get any support from head start and have to bare all the expenses of daycare all by themselves. She might not get some help from the child's preschool also. Actually she belongs to the working community among poor. These and such are the problems faced by a single mum in America.

Short comings in the welfare system also effect these single mothers. These mothers are considered the same as any other poor social group by many federal and state programs which run WIC and AFDC. On the other hand these women are more likely to suffer from many psychiatric illnesses which then become a major hurdle in getting job or other financial assistance. As a result of which it becomes difficult for them to gain financial independence and they become permanently dependent on welfare.

As a whole the single mothers living in USA face problems which are quite different from others. It is essential that more funds should be allocated for them

Okay, before you attempt to track me down and beat me up because of my headline, I would like to say that I'm entitled to "my" opinion! I personally do not see the benefits of having kids... I don't see how they could contribute to my overall goal of financial freedom. Yes... I know... that sounds very selfish and blah blah blah... but hey! Who cares? Okay, back to the subject at hand... I am the oldest of 5 children... and I'm the only one without kids! (And I'm very heterosexual, so don't even think it!) Well, I've asked her for years how she managed to actually have 5 boys and zero girls... and for years she's always given the same answer. "It's princess magic, now get out of my business!" This was extremely annoying... so I decided to use another source because the curiosity was killing me! I mean, not that I wanted to actually use her "secrets" for myself (gross...) but I just wanted to know! So finally, I asked her husband... Challenges Faced By Women After Retirement

While planning for retirement is essential for everybody, it is especially imperative for women. For example, although it is a huge undertaking for everybody to save money for retirement, the challenges and obstacles faced by women are varied and unique, which need to be considered while planning for their post-retirement life.

One of the most important factors to take into consideration is that women, on an average, have longer lives than men by about six years. This means, that compared to men, they will require extra money for their retirement. According to some studies made by demographer, most baby boomer women who are approaching their retirement age are expected to live well into their nineties. This implies that women will have to prepare for emotional and financial security during a retirement that could last more than thirty years, in many cases.

Another challenging factor typically faced by many women is spending less time in the work force. Studies show that on retiring, men put in 44 years of work on an average, while women account for just 32 years. The reason being that it is women who usually take a break from their careers to have and take care of their children, and sometimes even to look after aged parents.

Interruptions in the working life of women have important consequences financially. For example, when women stop working their Social Security contributions cease, which reduces their benefit from Social Security on retiring. It has been found that while men get $1008 per month as Social Security benefit on an average, women get just $774.

Interruptions to women's working life also results in making it harder for them to compete for raises in the salary and promotions. It is for this reason, along with others, that on average women are currently paid about 87 percent of men's pay on an hourly basis.

According to the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement, women get about 50 percent less as pension compared to men. And even though they may be qualified to benefit from the pension schemes of their husband, these can decrease dramatically if the husband dies before the wife.

Besides, according to estimates made by the Securities Industry Association, as a consequence of various factors like women marrying later, increased rates of divorces and becoming widowed, women will usually spend more of their adult life being on their own financially.

Because of fewer working years and lower incomes, it is less likely for women to save for their retirement. According to surveys, compared to 65 percent of men saving for their retirement currently, only 59 percent women are doing it. This study also reveals that compared to 48 percent men who take part in retirement plans at the workplace, like 401(k), just 36 percent women do.

On top of all that, compared to men, women tend to invest more conservatively. Women, it has been found, have a lower tolerance for risk, which is why they have a tendency to invest more conservatively. Even though it may be wiser to invest more conservatively in many investment portfolios, being too conservative results in less savings and reduced investments for retirement.

Although women in America have made considerable gains socially, economically and legally in the past few decades, their working patterns and caring responsibilities still result in placing them at considerable disadvantage in the country's system of retirement.
